Your Unique Journey to Motherhood

Perhaps you’re single and worry time is running out.

Or you’ve had a miscarriage.

Maybe you’re considering parenthood by sperm donor, egg donor, or adoption.

Or you’ve tried for years and still can’t figure out why it’s not happening.

Perhaps you fear you’re getting too old.

Or you’ve already gotten medical help.

But becoming pregnant goes far beyond a medical “problem.” And having a child, by any means, is more than a planning question.

Each one of us has a unique journey to motherhood that, if we follow it, asks us to find courage we didn’t know we had, let go of parts of ourselves we thought would never change, and come into ourselves in ways we couldn’t have imagined.

I’m gathering a small cohort of women who want to discover how to stop bumping up against those barriers and find their way to motherhood.

Your longing to be a mother is a precious and beautiful longing. It can be hard to watch others move forward with motherhood while we can’t seem to get there.

The steps that each one of us must take are personal and not always linear. But we can discover what they are if we have the support to sense and respond to our particular circumstances and the tools we need at the right time.

“Talking with Amanda helped to strengthen a voice in me that had become quiet after my experiences speaking with a fertility specialist. She helped me remember that I don’t have to approach this experience with fear, but instead with a grounded confidence.”

— Emily, New York City

We’ll meet in a small group (no more than 10) structured to inspire and support each other. In each session, we’ll focus on a different aspect of the journey. We’ll use the tools and practices that were helpful to me in becoming a mother and have helped me support other women find their paths too, whether they were married and having trouble getting pregnant, single and wanting to find someone to start a family with, or approaching motherhood by sperm or egg donor or adoption.

The interactive sessions will be a mix of exercises designed to help you discover what your path is and practices to help you embody and invite in the mother you are becoming.

We’ll uncover and gently move past the invisible or impassable blocks that have been in the way.

We’ll also address questions that come up, like:

  • What to do when people make painful comments, like “You shouldn’t have waited so long,” or “There are other ways to have kids”?

  • How do you hold the grief of the losses you’ve already had on this path?

  • How do you let yourself honor your dream while abiding the uncertainty of how and whether it will be fulfilled?

  • How do you stop stressing when everyone says the way to get there is by relaxing?

  • What do you do if your partner doesn’t want to be a parent yet?

Even if it seems too late or impossible, I believe that your longing to be a mother is there for a reason, and I want to help you honor it. In this workshop, we’ll explore how becoming a mother can mean you have MORE fun, more ease, and less pushing, even now.

“There’s magic in the way we’ve all been showing up for each other: so much compassion and trust and seeing the best in each other. Exercising that muscle in this setting is helping me extend that compassion to myself.”

— Summer 2025 women’s group participant

About the facilitator, Amanda Blaine:

I was successful in the accepted ways: degrees from Princeton and Harvard, coveted leadership roles in my field. But the striving, “make things happen” approach that got me to the top in my work life wasn’t helping my dreams of partnership and family.

When I was 39, I unexpectedly found myself single and longing to be a mother. I was terrified my fertility would run out before I had the chance.

In my loneliness, I ended up back in a relationship with someone who kept telling me he wasn’t ready to be a father. But I loved him and it was too late to start over with someone else, so I worked hard at being the perfect partner and prayed that he would come around.

As time passed I felt more and more anxious from denying my deepest desire. When I was 41, we broke up for good. I hated the idea of starting a family before meeting my life partner, but I had to go forward with having a baby while I still could, if it wasn’t already too late for me.

I reluctantly moved towards single motherhood by sperm donor. The first doctor I saw said I might need to go right to IVF. A month later, another doctor said that was wrong and I could try for 6 months first.

As I got myself set up to do that, months were passing and I was starting to feel better. Having released the time pressure on finding my life partner, I started dating. I even enjoyed it.

The same week I finally got off the waitlist for my preferred sperm donor, a friend set me up on a walk with a kind stranger.

I really liked him. With support, I managed to override my usual habits of trying to make it go a certain way. I let myself simply enjoy the experience as it was happening.

In spite of that, or perhaps because of that, it was less than two months later that he told me he wanted to be the father of my child, whether he was biologically related or not.

One year after the breakup I had so resisted, I was engaged to be married. And in spite of what that one doctor had said, we got pregnant right away. I gave birth when I was 43. We now have a one year old baby we adore.

I’m forever grateful for the community of support I had and the incredible coaching that helped me discover my path to motherhood. Even if it seems too late or if it seems impossible to you, I believe that your longing to be a mother is there for a reason, and I want to help you honor it.
